Sean was a tall man with flaming red hair. He was once from a rich and powerful family. His home was replaced by Lord Egham’s castle. He now owned nothing, only the rags on his back. He was ‘a lord without a land and a general without an army’.
He spent a lot of time playing the Irish harp and singing beautiful, sad songs. After the village was destroyed, he told Patrick to leave Skullgoragh and never return.
We see Sean as daring and willful. He murdered Mr Graystone and stole money from him because he believed the money was rightfully his. He later gave Patrick the money for his fare to sail to America and bought him food and drinks at Cork.
Later we learn that he is arrested and hanged for robbery and murder.
